ios is a proprietary mobile operating system developed by apple. introduced in 2007, it was advertised as mac os x back then, which is technically true, since ios is a locked-down macos port. iphone os 1.0 was so locked-down if u went back to the homescreen to check ur email, the previous app was instantly killed (stopped running), since multitasking wasn't a thing till ios 4. ios devices (starting with the iphone 3gs) do not officially let u downgrade to an older build. this is bc every firmware (ipsw or ota) is cryptographically signed by apple. when u restore an ios device to the latest firmware, it asks apple's tss (tatsu signing server) for shsh blobs for the latest firmware. if it's signed, it'll continue with the restore process, but if it's unsigned, it'll js stop the restore. these shsh blobs are tied to the device's ecid, which is exclusive to ur device. no other device has the same ecid as another device, and this means u can't use another device's shsh blobs to downgrade ur device. luckily, there are exploits for ancient ios devices that bypass firmware signing, such as de rebus antiquis for ios 6/7, an iboot exploit that lets users untether downgrade to any ios using saved ios 6/7 blobs on 32 bit devices. but some exploits only let u tether downgrade (u can only boot it up if u run the exploit), such as checkm8 or usbliter8. some older devices, such as the iphone 4s, 5, 5s, 5th-gen ipod touch, and ipads 2 through 4, including mini 1-2 and air 1, let u downgrade to some older versions, such as 6.1.3, 8.4.1, or 10.3.3. these versions are signed bc, for example, an iphone 4s running ios 5.0 cannot directly ota update to 9.3.6. it first needs to update to 6.1.3, then 8.4.1, and then update to 9.3.6 (keywords: iphone, ios, android, iphone 5c, ipad pro, magic keyboard, ios 7, shsh blobs, springboard, spring animations, iphone 5s, ios 6.1.3 iphone 4s, legacy ios kit, samsung, galaxy s26, ios 27 beta) #TechTok #fyp #xyzbca #cidstech #ios
